Graeme king | Best of luck to all those defending editorial standards. Newsquest needs to look at the long term, not go for short term cost cuts.

Barbara Goulden | When are managers going to wake up to the fact that Journalism Matters - to them just as much as their undervalued readers who are not leaving the paper because they want to get their news online....it's because there's not enough staff to write the interesting news, features and in-depth analysis of local issues any more!

Anonymous | It's a sad day for the British press when the ability of such high-profile and well-supported titles to satisfy the obvious needs of a socially-diverse readership is compromised by the need to meet the demands of largely USA-based investors.

| 1888 | Anonymous | I have been a regular Herald reader for more than 40 years and the Sunday Herald since it was published. They are the best broadsheets in Scotland. The Evening Times's local investigations/campaigns have made a difference.
Lately I have noticed details missed, e.g. voting figures, names voting, I have written to the Editor but nothing published or any replies. If coverage and quality goes, so will the readers. |

Peter McColl |
Emma Miller | The need for quality journalism has never been greater than it is now. Corporate greed must not be allowed to undermine the democratic role of the media, and the Scottish public will not tolerate this
Alex Cunningham | Support the good work that is being done by the Herald Journalists and stop undermining the workforce
Donald Anderson | About time. The journalists and staff in all the "Scottish" papers should be out too, along with the EBC and anti "Scottish" TV.
Rayn Gunnion | I cancelled my order of the Sunday Herald last week and won't be renewing it until this matter is resolved.
pat kane | We need an equivalent of the Swedish Press Subsidy Council, or at least a repatriated Scottish monopolies and mergers commission, and repatriated media regulation. This is the worst kind of corporate margin-squeezing.
Susan Carden | You are the unacceptable face of journalism and should not be allowed to own newspapers or have any kind of power over the lives of fellow human beings.

Derrick White | Newsquest could do with a crash course in HR .
Jimmy Ross | The maintenance of a quality press in Scotland is a matter of concern to us all. Newspaper owners have a public duty that should go beyond screwing every last penny out of an already hard pressed workforce just to show a better profit for shareholders.
