Comments: I am a PhD student at the University of Illinois, and I support this idea of keeping hens in private property. I think is a wonderful way for people to alliviate the economic burdens they have, and at the same time have a nutritious food.

Comments: Zoning and corresponding city ordinances were put in place at a time when the U.S. believed in modernization and urbanization. We currently live in a time when these local policies have become inappropriate as a response to people's living needs, such as producing their own food as an alternative to corporate farms' production of unhealthy food. Smart solutions to today's economic and environmental crises should not be punished by antiquated ordinances.

Comments: I think this is a great opportunity for Champaign to change the law preventing people from keeping hens. I have wanted to keep hens for a long time. I found out it was illegal though. This is just the thing to change that. I think hens would be a good thing for Champaign for the reasons listed above. I know how nice they can be because I have experienced them before. I have learned lots of interesting facts about how keeping hens is beneficial to family economy and the environment. I hope this law gets changed.
