Name: Oscar F Chicas on Jul 6, 2007Comments: We have a restaurant on Fern Street. Our customers use the street parking while dining at Sergio's. In May I submitted to the corresponding Committee a petition to stop this change, and suggesting other alternatives. This petition was supported by 76 signatures of concerned citizens. They basically say "PLEASE DO NOT EXTEND THE ENFORCEMENT OF HOURS OF THE PARKING METERS IN WHEATON, BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD" Thanks.Flag

Name: Shawn Marie Jarosz & Jon Tucker on Jul 7, 2007Comments: We are residents of Forest Estates neighborbhood and support Wheaton businesses primarily at night after work. Most of the time we drive in and park at the no-fee meters after 6pm. Changing that to 10pm would make Wheaton feel less like an extension of our community. Please support the small businesses in Wheaton and the neighbors who patronize them by rescinding this new resolution. Thank you!Flag

Name: Morey Rothberg on Jul 7, 2007Comments: I support the petition to repeal extended hours for metered parking in Wheaton. Businesses, especially restaurants, are struggling to survive. They do not need the additional burden of dealing with irate customers who are in effect penalized for patronizing their businesses. Raise the metered rate if necessary, but do not deliver another hammer blow to business owners in Wheaton.Flag

Name: Maritza Rivera on Jul 9, 2007Comments: This measure negatively impacts the Wheaton community and businesses in the area. Please reconsider this decision. Cars are frequently ticketed and towed and this would further aggravate an already difficult situation.Flag

Name: Nadir Mushahwar (Owner Of Quick Printing In Wheaton) on Jul 9, 2007Comments: If you want to keep pushing the commerce out of Wheaton, continue to do things like this. Wheaton is not a downtown Silver Spring, or a Bethesda yet.....and till the improvements have been made to make this in the like of those two areas, the attempt to make more money off the people parking and coming to our stores should not be passed or attempted.Flag

Name: Kathy Hurld on Jul 9, 2007Comments: The extension of hours was done as a quick fix to try and address revenue shortfalls. I understand the need to maintain revenue, but there are other options that may not be as detrimental e.g., extending the hours to 7:30 to allow dinner patrons to eat without moving the car, increasing the fees but not the hours, increasing the number of hours from 1 to 3 at the meters, etc . . . This should be looked at more closely and all options considered including meters that change from hoursly during the day to several hours in the evening - they do exist.Flag

Name: Eric A. Aldrette on Jul 9, 2007Comments: We strongly believe that if this extension in parking meters becomes effective will definitely affect the business environment in Wheaton. Our clients have been expressing their concerns about the parking situation for their clients; they do not feel that this is the best answer for the area parking needs.Flag

Name: Michelle N. Turner on Jul 9, 2007Comments: Considering all the other needs of downtown Wheaton, why on earth are you wasting time on parking meters Unless you can show that extending the requirement of parking meter use will decrease crime and other serious issues, please spend my tax dollars on something that will actually benefit Wheaton, and clean it up.Flag

Name: Estella Waldman on Jul 10, 2007Comments: Other cities do not have these extended hours and it really increases the numbers of people who frequent their downtown restaurants, galleries, etc. We should not extend the hours - let's find another way to increase revenues if that is bottom line.Flag

Name: Daryl C. Fleming on Jul 10, 2007Comments: These ridiculous hours hurt restaurants, stores, condo owners, and others who would be greatly inconvenienced to keep feeding meters way after dark. Surely the County can find a more sensible and reasonable source of revenue. I am pleased to be able to sign this petition and support those who will appear in person before the Council.Flag

Name: Gail Melson on Jul 13, 2007Comments: Locally owned businesses in Wheaton could use the support that Montgomery County can offer including giving them relief from evening parking meters. Even though Silver Spring has gotten most of the attention and sympathy in this issue, the business owers in Wheaton will probably be more effected by extending parking meter hours. Please repeal the measure to extend parking meter hours in Wheaton and help our small business owners.Flag
