As part of the campus community we urge the Buchanan Towers Addition (BTA) project team to reconsider the placement of paths and trees that will impact the Outback which lies just north of the BTA site.

After reviewing the BTA landscaping plans, we agree that the path that leads to the middle of the southern border of the Forest Garden is placed inappropriately for the following reasons: (1) The path suggests a non-existent entrance to the Outback which would bisect the Forest Garden and disrupt continuity (2) Creation of an entrance and path that bisects the Forest Garden would create gate and trail maintenance and safety issues.

We also agree that the placement of the Douglas Fir and Western Hemlock just north of Buchanan Towers and west of the parking area have the potential to create additional shade within the Outback gardens and urge that other shorter growing trees be considered.

By signing this petition we as part of the campus community believe that the above issues are important to the future of the Outback and strongly urge the BTA project team to consider making appropriate changes.
