Name: Steve Ruggiero on Jan 4, 2010Comments: In an effort to rush this closure past us, the Commission on Government Accountability and Forecasting did not even follow their own rules for closing this prison. The people of Illinois, especially the residents of Thomson and nearby communities, deserve an opportunity to voice their concerns about this issue. THE PROPOSED ACTION HAS NO PRECEDENT IN U.S. HISTORY! Have all of our questions been answered about the logistic, economic and homeland security impact of this unprecedented action? NO WAY! The Thomson-area communities would be better served through some other plan. According to Director Randle of the Department of Corrections, over 1,000 of the new jobs provided by the current plan will be federal, NOT LOCAL. More and deeper scrutiny is required before anyone concludes that this would be an economic boon to the region. Citizens in Michigan recently defeated an attempt to bring GITMO detainees to their state after a similar plan received deeper scruitiny, revealing that the promised 3,000 jobs could actually be as few as 50, and the plan would have probably cost the state of Michigan money in the end. THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE "JOBS PLAN!" USE THOMSON PRISON LIKE IT WAS INTENDED!!Flag

Jacobs on Jan 11, 2010Comments: Moving those enemies of our country to a prison in the middle of a cornfield with major roads close by from a prison on the tip of an island is a security blunder! As they have taken up arms against the United States, they should be in a military prison and face a military trial not a civilian trial.Flag

Name: April Stroupe on Jan 12, 2010Comments: You are thwarting the will of the people to bring enemy combatants to our soil. This is a short-sighted, purely political decision which will have repercussions, I fear, for decades to come. Please protect the actual people you work for and stop this process!Flag

Name: Claire Van Horn on Jan 14, 2010Comments: The moving of prisoners to Thompson is unjustifiable. They do not deserve to set foot on American soil. By giving them a place here, you are giving them refuge. This is an atrocity and proof that our elected and appointed officials do not care about the thousands of American LIves that have been lost fighting for freedom in America. Are our officials really so narrow minded that they can't see this as a politically correct move that is jeopardizing the safety of our state and country and casting American values to the wind? Obama wants something to be ashamed of...this qualifies.Flag

Name: Karen Real on Jan 26, 2010Comments: We put people in office to do our will, however it seems that these same people have taken their jobs over the edge and choose to do as they please no matter what the people say or for any regard of the processes that are supposed to be followed. We do not want the terrorists in our country nor do we believe they should have any of the same rights that we as American are afforded. Things are just out of control and we demand that the voice of the people be heard and regarded, that things not be done for whatever reasons we do not know, that these politicians do things behind closed doors ignoring we the people that gave them the job in the first place. They work for us, we are not their doormats.Flag

Secondly, if these terrorist or "enemy combatants" are placed here, they will be given rights that should be reserved only for the citizens of the United States. Thirdly, will this not bring other potential terrorists to Illinois as they might come to visit their "family" or "friends"? Thank youFlag
