There used to be a mental hospital in Vancouver, called the riverview hospital. it helped keep many homeless people with mental illnesses off of the street. Although the hospital helped, they used methods such as shock therapy on patients. in the 1940's, only 540 of the patients recieved any sort of treatment, the rest may have been locked in restraintss or cells. The hospital is no longer running, they shut down 1983. Recently I was driving through Vancouver, I noticed the large amount of homeless people, mentally ill people, and people addicted to drugs and alcohol. I felt sad. Vancouver still owns the property that the Riverview hospital was built on, and although the building is in very bad shape, it's still standing. My hopes are that enough people will sign this petition, (and donate to the cause?) And Vancouver will get the hospital running again. But this time ALL patients will be treated, using good methods, not methods such as shock treatment. Are you willing to help?
