I had a general contractor do a remodeling project in our basement by installing a bedroom and a bathroom.  The contractor came with a vague contract that did not have the parts, materials, and labor cost broken down.  It stated; all work including electrical will be completed by contractor.  The contract stated that the project would take only six weeks.  Ninety percent of monies were paid upfront.   After the first week, the contractor got involved in a discussion between my spouse and a neighhbor which he added his opinion.  He did not like the opinions and inturn the contractor cursed and yelled in fronyt of my family to include children.  Giving the contractor a chance to redeem himself the project took ten weeks, failing six inspections because the contractor did not meet federal, state, and city codes and regulations.  Walls were off and not straight, two different types of texture paints on walls and infastructure not completed, and everytime something was added for the project, the contractor did not sit down and discuss these additions with us to ensure this is what we would agree to.  The contractor was fired and released in which he tried to take us to court for the remaining amount of monies; which was ($45.00), fourty-five dollars.  This has to be ceased and stopped.  Homeowners should not be held liable due to contractors errors, mistakes, and manipulation of homeowners.  Stop general contractors from taking advantage of homeowners on remodeling work.
