The Board of Education has sent an $85.7 million school budget for 2012-13 to the Town Council. If the council passes the plan, it will result in the closure of Stevens Alternative High School, also known as Synergy; certified staff layoffs; and the outsourcing of the Head Start program. The Head Start Program has been around for at least most of my lifetime because I went there for 2 years beginning at age 3. I was learning to read & write by age 4 because of that school. My own son has gone there since September and the progress he has made in these past 4 months has been amazing. He tries to read, knows his color, numbers, ABC's, shape and has amazing communication and interaction skills. The Teachers, Para Professionals and Staff are amazing and know my son by name. I want to show the Board of Education that outsourcing this program and losing all of these wonderful people would be reprehensible. The program should be left just the way it is.
