A child needs as much love as they can get in this life and excluding family only reduces this. In fact, this situation is called parental abduction and alienation and is a form of child abuse. The psychological damage is internal and not in the form of outward bruises. Anyone who has been bullied before can attest to mental scars last much longer than any physical bruises. Further what is being asked for is nothing special, it is only asking that Japan live up to signed international UN agreements on the convention of the Child.

My name is Tim and I am the father of Liefie terstege. Liefie was abducted on October 13, 2012 at the age of 4. Since then I have almost no contact. The Japanese supreme court decided that it would be good for my son and I to visit for a total of 24 hours a year. Which in itself is a severe breach of parental rights that fails to recognize that parenting time is needed, not visitation. The final court order can not be carried out as my wife has declined the opportunity to make it possible to make use of my 24 hours a year.

The UN convention of the child states that a child has the right to be with both parents even if living apart. I am asking Japan to fulfill it's signed agreement and to put an end to this modern day tragedy that affects numerous children and parents both in and outside of Japan.
