Help Cancer Survivor Meet Demi Lovato
Hey everyone! My name is Kafia. I am a 19 year old girl from Toronto. I was hoping that some of you would like to help a girl live out her dream. At the age of 8 I was first diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. I underwent chemotherapy and radiation. I was cancer free for 6 years, but due to a mutation caused by the radiation my cancer returned. This time around I was 15 years old. I had to get chemotherapy again, but this time I had to undergo surgery to remove the tumour. Unfortunately the surgery left me with paralysis on the left side of my face. Which I hope will get better with time. Around 2007 is when I was introduced to Demi's music. All through treatment her songs are what helped keep me sane. I just wished I could meet her, but I never had enough money to pay for concert tickets. So when I was told I could get a wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation, I was ecstatic. My plan was to meet her and tell her how much she inspired me. I had everything planned out in my head. Then one day as I was talking to my mom. She seemed sadder than usual. She told me she missed her mother dearly. My grandma was stuck in Somalia with no way out. My mother hadn't seen her own mom in almost 21 years! Seeing my mom so sad tore me up inside. So I decided to change my wish and bring my grandma to Canada instead. It was a bit of a process, but it finally happened. I can't thank the Make-A-Wish foundation enough. The tears of joy that came down my moms face the first time she saw her mother at the airport melted my heart. I knew that I made the right decision and was so glad to see my family so happy.
