Name: Jean Urquhart on Nov 4, 2008Comments: Helensburgh is desperately needing these plans realised to save it from further decline. The wishes of the people must be listened to by those who have the power to make it happen. Lets dispel the apathy and have something our future generations can be proud of.Flag

Name: Kenneth White on Nov 4, 2008Comments: Congratulations on coming up with a solution that restores the building; makes it available for community use; provides community facilities that will not otherwise be available; and gives the council its new offices.I do hope the council is farsighted enough not to dismiss the proposal out of hand. Restoring the building solely as council offices will be a poor second best solution.Flag

Name: Emer Flett on Nov 6, 2008Comments: I think that this is a fabulous idea, I especially like the plans for a cinema and music studios. The town/community really needs this to happen. It feels like other towns are growing and developing but not Helensburgh and i would 100% support this proposal.Flag

Name: Alison Graham on Nov 6, 2008Comments: It is the best proposal that is likely to come along for the restoration of the Clyde Street School and its return to use in a way that will have multiple benefits for the community. The uses proposed are relevant to all age groups and a wide range of interests, both among residents and visitors. It will create jobs and regenerate a key site on the East Bay waterfront. It would be preferable if the Council Offices could be built on other land to the side but I appreciate that the current proposals and design are dictated by the current boundaries of the school ground. Concerns Argyll and Bute Council are likely to have about committing to the project could be addressed via (i) establishing the right type of relationship and participation of the Council in the development process (ii) appointing a senior level professional project manager with the right type of track record to run the whole of the development project (planning, fundraising, development of commercial and community services, construction, marketing) plus the right sort of development/construction project manager to handle the restoration/construction phase within the overall project. While the project needs to be driven by vision and local need, it needs professional input of this type with clearly assigned responsibility to avoid the usual pitfalls and reduce risk to an acceptable level for funders and those giving precious time. There are a range of strong propositions for attracting both public and private sector funding into the burgh which the Council itself could not achieve.Flag

It is in great danger of being overun with cafes and restaurants and nothing else! as a scout leader I am aware that apart from clubs there is nothing for our youngsters to do at weekends. they go into Glasgow instead!Flag
