11. In our contract on page 67-Section 13.2 a) 1. “The county agrees to fully pay medical coverage for worker and dependents on the lowest cost medical plan. The lowest cost medical plan will be either Kaiser or Health Net Plan.” The county wants to eliminate that language because it gives an advantage to Kaiser and Health Net. See next for reason.
12. The county offer regarding Health Insurance is that the county will pay Lowest cost plan which could be Valley Health Plan – the county’s HMO, or Kaiser of Health Net or another plan that is similar to Health Net or Kaiser. The you as a employee would pay the difference if you are not in the lowest cost plan. (So based on our current contract (as stated above in item 13), even if Valley Health Plan is the lowest cost plan – which is the county’s HMO plan, and even cost less than Kaiser, the county provides Kaiser for free whether you have dependents or not.) The county’s proposal is that either we are in the lowest cost plan (which today would most likely be either Kaiser or Valley Health Plan), and if you are in a different health plan, say Health Net, you pay the difference. This could be $100 to $200 per pay period. This would also eliminate Medicare part B reimbursement which means existing retirees over 65 would have to pay $100 per month toward Medicare.
