Name: Dr Natasha Anto on Dec 3, 2012Comments: As a local GP in neighbouring Southwark in addition the previous 12 months that I spent working at the University Hospital Lweisham, I am very concerned at the proposed plans to close Lewisham Hospital's A&E department. The Department has always been extremely busy and the loss of such services will lead to unacceptable strain on neighbouring A&E Services. I am concerned that neighbouring hospitals will not have the capacity and additional resources to cope with the increased demand for Emergency care. This will inevitably be a disadvantage to patients leading to significant inequalities in access to emergency services.Flag

Name: Christopher Schoeb on Dec 3, 2012Comments: Could not agreed with the above comments any more. I am a doctor - I worked in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. When my children were ill I took them to Lewisham A&E as I had reservations about the A&E department at QEH. Now Lewisham A&E is earmarked for closure after a £12m refurb .....unbelievable!!!Flag

Name: Dr Julia Hodges on Dec 3, 2012Comments: I am very concerned that patients local to lewisham will not be able to easily get to some of the other hospitals as the bus-routes for patients and their visitors are poor. I am also concerned that Kings will not be able to cope with the extra patients from Deptford/New X/Brockley who would have previously gone to Lewisham. Lewisham is a well-run hospital being sacrificed to save the PFI QEWH - meantime the PFI companies are being paid a vast amount for sustaining no financial risk at all. Crazy decisions!!Flag

Name: Nigel Konzon on Dec 3, 2012Comments: Suburban failures cost inner city people dear, what's new in the NHS?. Closure of Lewishem accident department, will mean increased workload at Kings College Hospital, an already overstrertched department, it is a fantasy to expect Lweisham residents to go to Woolwich or Sidcup, they wont! Bizarre idea that 'the community' a euphemism for 'not my problem anymore', will be able to absorb any extra work when south east London primary care is undergoing the most vicious and drastic cuts in it's services in the history of the NHS. This sudden unplanned panic response will lead to failure, and result in misery for thousands of patients.Flag
