LGBTQ students often feel left out and don't know where to turn to find information about their situations as it is not often talked inside and outside of the classroom. They are also often the targets for vicious bullying. One solution to this problem may lie in making sure students, both LGBTQ and not, are well enough informed so that they can handle situations that may arise with proper respect. The best place to start this would be in health classes, allowing LGBTQ students to learn about their bodies and how sexuality and gender works beyond the heterosexual and cigender ways that are now taught so that they can protect themselves as it applies to their situations. For those students who are not LGBTQ, this will also help remove some of the stigmas and fear that come from not being informed enough that perpetuate bullying.
