Comments: Please add my name to the petition. This is such an important subject, and America can do so much to lead the way by example. At 62 years young, global warming may not hurt me too much, but I fear for my children, and for my children's children - they must not suffer our neglect. Thank you.

Comments: In my opinion, we need to preserve our environment. A mandatory cap on the emissions of carbon is essential if we want to change the current course of our planet. This is important because without the environment that existed in the United States in the 1600s our forefathers would have never been able to assemble as great of a nation as we have today. The land provided them with food and material to produce their shelter. Without these materials, this nation would not exist today. If the environment was as bad back then is it is progressing from today's current pollution, they would have had a much tougher time in finding animals to hunt for food. Although many people who support the environment seem to glance over this fact, it is quite relevant. Although we have been abusing the environment over the last several hundred years, it is not too late to change. Some people argue that if we place a cap on the emissions of carbon, then would suffer a decline in our per capita production. While this may be true in the short run, Americans are clever and would be able to meet the demand with new innovative ways which are more environmentally friendly. Just look at the change made in the United States when fast food restaurants changed their food covers to a more environmentally friendly material from the Styrofoam that they were using and how these companies are still around today and are strong corporations. Americans adjusted and now as a result, we are better off by being more ecologically friendly. During the Industrial revolution, there were similar tradeoffs of damage to the environments for progress but as we now know the methods of this era are not used today from the sheer barbarousness of it. During this time, one could see a blanket of smoke covering the streets. Not only was this pollution unsightly but it was also unhealthy for the residents nearby the factories. Health is a great matter to consider in this matter. Pollution is dangerous to the health of nearby individuals and as pointed out by the American Heart Association, exposure to air pollution contributes to the development of cardiovascular disease. Obviously, cutting down on pollution is good even with the short term problems it may cause to companies. Even if that was not enough, we share this world with not only its current residents but all that come after us. Is it fair to our children that we destroy their future world I say no. It is our job to do our part as Americans and stop our current downward trend from our pollution.

Comments: Man-made climate change seems to be real - and it will probably do serious harm to the World and its people. All Countries should now play their part in trying to slow it or halt it before it is too late. It is time for all politicians to forget the next election and the big-business lobbyists - and get on with the job of preserving the environment for future generations. A mandatory cap on carbon emissions will - by a strengthening consensus among the scientific community - help to get the job done.
