This petition has been set up to oppose the immediate introduction of charges for those who live in college and who do not collect parcels within 24-hours, and for those who live out who have a parcel delivered to college in their name. These were the provisions of an email sent to all Hatfield students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) on behalf of the Bursar. For the purposes of clarity, below is the email in its entirety (whilst removing any personal references): Good afternoon all, With immediate effect Hatfield College is now imposing a £5.00 fine to all Hatfield students who live out and who are currently directing their parcels to be delivered to College. Also with immediate effect for all Hatfield students who live in College and who do not pick up their parcels at College within 24 hours of delivery you will also be changed a £5.00 fine when the parcel is collected. Take care. I believe this is completely unfair, unnecessary and worrying given that no student or student representative was consulted before this email was sent and the policy supposedly took immediate affect. It also lies very close to breaking the college regulations on the livers out side, depending on how you define the word 'mail'.

I believe that students (both JCR and MCR, livers in and livers out, and international students) should be consulted about the problems that have lead to this policy being created, with the intention of devising a more appropriate policy that all can agree to. The current policy stated in the above email should be suspended until this consultation has occurred. If you agree, please sign below at the earliest convenience. The signatures will be collated in due course, and passed on to the Bursar and the rest of the College Officers. I very much believe that if there is strong student support for the suspension of the above, then the policy will be reversed. If not then alternative measures will be considered, and the JCR kept up-to-date as appropriate.

Please use this petition appropriately (ie use real names, and only post once) If it is clear that the petition has been misused then the likelihood of positive action resulting from it occurring is drastically reduced.
