Save lovely Puerto Rico The lovely resort of Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria, with it excellent facilities, great restaurants and bars, its beautiful well maintained beaches, is marred by the following two activities. Anfi time-share touts These touts, located at the shopping centres, and Puerto Rico beach, intimidate, insult, pester and, at times, chase the visitors. When the visitor politely tells them that time-share does not interest them, they will not accept it. That person and his/her family will be subjected to verbal abuse and rude remarks every time they pass the touts for the remainder of their holiday. Camera shops The sales people in these shops, especially the camera shops located on the ground floor of the Passerella Centre, Puerto Escala, Puerto Rico, hassle the tourists as they walk by. They will grab or try to grab their hand, or they will put a camera up in front of their face. This affects the other businesses in the locality as some of the tourists walk on the opposite side of the road to avoid them. The level of dissatisfaction of customers at these shops calls into question the quality of the products they sell and the sales practices they employ. These individuals cause misery and upset to tourists whose only wish is to enjoy the facilities that this resort and the other resorts in the island have to offer. It creates a negative image of what is otherwise a fantastic holiday destination. Gran Canarian Tourist Organisations The world is going through a major economic recession at present. Every country is fighting to get a share of the diminishing tourist market, resulting from this downturn. Today, the smaller number of tourists have a wide choice of destinations available to them. One of those choices is Gran Canaria and some tourists make this choice. Why then should the Gran Canarian Tourist Organisations choose to allow its visitors be subjected to such disgraceful treatment from the time-share touts, subjecting its visitors to all forms of abuse unless they comply with their wishes allow the resorts camera shops to sell defective or incomplete products, to use very unethical tactics to bring about a sale, to go on to the street and try to grab the hand of tourists passing their shops and to hold cameras up in front of their faces The large number of dissatisfied customers, who posted their horrible experience on the internet is ample evidence of how customers of these shops were treated. Do these Gran Canarial Tourist Organisations expect the visitors to return to Puerto Rico and be subjected to these treatments, when they have a wide choice of destinations elsewhere The Mogan Ayuntamentio (Council), in which Puerto Rico is located, has made great efforts in recent years to improve the quality of this resort. Examples include: Improved footpaths, roadways and public lighting Maintaining the resorts two beautiful beaches in an impeccable manner Providing excellent walkways Providing and maintaining fantastic water- sports facilities The Gran Canarian Tourist Organisations on the other hand, appears to have no interest in protecting it visitors from such vile treatment. They allow them to be insulted and cheated out of their hard-earned money. They have decided to abandon them. They should get out of their comfortable offices and witness what is taking place in its resorts. They should then properly police these resorts so as to ensure that its visitors can enjoy it's excellent amenities, dine at wonderful restaurants, sample the wide choice of bars and clubs, avail of the excellent water-sports facilities and use the island's great transport systems. The first-time visitor to this beautiful location will then have every reason to return. Please sign the petition and make your own comments if you wish
