This petition calls for Jimmy Haslam III to relinquish ownership of the Cleveland Browns, effective immediately. This petition also requests that the National Football League, facilitate this termination as soon as possible to ensure the tradition and legacy of the Cleveland Browns franchise is not irreversibly damaged by the scandal unfolding within Pilot Travel Centers LLC. The conduct of Jimmy Haslam during his tenure as CEO of Pilot Travel Centers LLC is not consistent with the values of the Cleveland Browns organization or its fan base. Furthermore the calculated and malicious nature of the accusations calls into question the character of Jimmy Haslam and his potential to destroy the credibility and integrity of the Cleveland Browns franchise. The Cleveland Browns are more than a balance sheet. The ongoing investigation into criminal misconduct under Jimmy Haslam's tenure as the CEO of Flying J, have been brought to light by multiple federal agencies whose intentions are credible. The details released to the public suggest a culture of fraud and corruption during Haslam's leadership. The public awareness of the ongoing investigation has already brought embarrassment to the organization and is a giant cloud of distraction looming right before the NFL Draft takes place next week. This distraction is simply unacceptable and the potential consequence of indictments being handed down is a scenario that must be avoided. Enough is enough. No singular person is greater than the team and no single owner should be afforded the opportunity to tarnish the enduring legacy of a cornerstone franchise in the NFL which represents so much to so many. The Browns are an asset to the Cleveland community and a tradition that brings families together during the fall for over 60 years. The Browns are bigger than Jimmy Haslam and we are confident the NFL will agree and take swift and sweeping actions to ensure that no investigations or court proceedings have the ability to negatively impact the franchise. Let me be honest and direct: It is unacceptable to consider for even a moment that the fans who have remained loyal in spite of the Browns continual mismanagement and lack of success may somehow be forced to endure the ownership of a man who made his fortune by ripping off his customers. The Cleveland Browns were taken from us in 1995. We were told to be patient. We battled the courts to ensure the Browns name and history would remain in Cleveland. While we waited for court rulings we were told to be patient. We waited for three torturous years with no football to see who our new leadership would be and for our team to return in 1999 only to be forced to endure 15 seasons of failure. We have always been told to be patient. We have endured the absolute and total incompetence of numerous regimes. Each regime told us to be patient. In all we have remained loyal for a decade under the watch of Randy Learner, a man more interested in European soccer than the Browns and who couldn't even muster enough respect to brief the fan base during his continual waves of directionless change. The media always told us to be patient. The revenues from our season tickets and marked up team store purchases have fueled the profit that lined the pocket of Mr. Learner as he bailed on the franchise and sold the team during the season in 2012. Over the past 20 years, the dysfunctional leadership of the Cleveland Browns have completely alienated an entire generation of fans of whom anyone younger than 30 has no concept of the team even being competitive. The Cleveland Browns of today only exist because of the steadfast and somewhat irrational loyalty of a fan base that has given everything and received nothing in return. In closing, we the fan base of the Cleveland Browns demand an immediate action be taken by Mr. Haslam to step down as owner of the Cleveland Browns effective immediately and under the full understanding that Mr. Haslam is to retain no stake in our organization or attempt to continue his ownership through an intermediate 3rd party. Furthermore, If Mr. Haslam refuses to step down, we ask that the NFL intervene on our behalf to ensure the preservation of our franchise and it's functional and ethical operations moving forward.
