We, the undersigned, wish to inform the administration at EMCC that we want Harvest Day re-defined. Historically, Harvest Day has been poorly defined, resulting in it being a poorly attended and meaningless "holiday". We propose that because the fall semester already is peppered with one-day holidays (Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day), we don't want to lose classroom time to yet another "holiday": the artificially invented Harvest Day. We propose that Harvest Day be eliminated as a non-classroom day, and that the College also not attempt to turn it into a hybrid of holiday and "alternative instruction" or any similar moniker. We propose that Harvest Day can continue as a celebration of our community, and that fun events such a breakfasts, and lunches, and games and competitions, and similar can be held, but that all such activities occur simultaneously with regularly scheduled classes, and further that regularly scheduled classes will be held and that students will be expected to attend, as always.
