Comments: There are few resources at this institution as precious as our libraries and the people who make them work, from technical services to reference and research librarians. Growing our libraries, not streamlining them based on the market principles of Deloitte Management Consultants, should be a top priority.

Comments: As a longtime library employee and member of the Harvard community, I see Harvard's libraries as the heart of the university; nothing can live without its heart. Changes in format and interaction with the community are coming to our library system and it will only be more imperative to have a fully staffed workforce of skilled and dedicated Harvard community members to lead us into the future.

Comments: The Harvard Library is one of the great information vaults of civilization. Many of the books, manuscripts, maps etc. are valuable objects in and of themselves and cannot be replaced by electronic facsimiles, useful as those copies may be. Librarians at Harvard are specialists who tend to their materials with great care BECAUSE they work here. Outside vendors may do adequate work re: the collections, but will never have the dedication to an institution with which they have no personal connection.
