On August 6th, the Hardwick Development Review Board has issued a conditional use permit for a Dollar General. Specifically, a 9,1000 square foot retail space off of Route 14 south of the Village, to be developed by the Zaremba Group, LLC. There are no other buildings in the immediate vicinity that are as large as 9,100 sq ft. 3,000 sq ft is the current maximum of existing buildings in the area. The Board determined that the character of the area will not be adversely impacted. The Board also made this decision before the State Agency of Natural Resources was able to study the proposed development area and issue the proper permitted as it is adjacent to a wetland and floodplain, and despite numerous objections from local residents concerned about the placement of the development. Concerned Hardwick residents will appeal the decision and want your support! Hardwick has worked hard over the years to ensure that people come into the downtown to shop, as well as along the Route 15 corridor.
