The city finally agreed to open the passage and reconfigure the lanes to keep us moving. My back aches from the grind of these past few months but seeing the barriers come down is worth the exhaustion. We won this one together so let us just take a moment to …

The Harbour Bridge Authority has closed Harbour Passage under the bridge for 2 years during construction on the bridge, blocking the Passage as an active commuter route to the city centre for pedestrians and cyclists from the north end and west side of the city. The City of Saint John has not provided reasonable accommodation for active commuters in response to this closure (review the City's current plan: http://ow.ly/1OCuE).

By signing this petition I am expressing my wish to see Harbour Passage reopened, even if only partially, to allow active commuters through or to have Main Street reduced to 4 lanes with one lane in each direction marked and dedicated for the safe transport of pedestrians and cyclists.

I believe encouraging more pedestrian and bicycle transportation is good for the City of Saint John and this oversight and lack of priority for this option runs counter to best practices and efforts to build a more livable community.

The silence from the Bridge Authority has been long but I am still spending my evenings sending emails and tracking down anyone who will listen to our case. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the city acts like our daily commute does not exist. I am not stopping until they provide a safe way for us to get to work.

Reaching this level of visibility proves I am not the only one frustrated by the current lack of safe transit options. It has been an exhausting road to get here but seeing this momentum keeps me moving forward against the city's inaction.

Finally someone said it. The current setup is a joke and dangerous for anyone trying to commute from the north end.

St John needs to start thinking about people who dont drive cars. 2 years is way too long to just shut us down.

Use my bike to get to the city every single day. Walking on main street is a death trap right now. Fix this.

Was almost hit twice this week trying to navigate around the construction. Needs a safe path immediately.

Ridiculous to cut off the main route for commuters without any real detour plan. How are we supposed to get to work safely now
