Name: Mark Vigneault on Oct 16, 2006Country: CAState:Comments: I belive it's in the best interest of the people of Canada to ban handguns to the public. The only purpose they surve is to kill. Only Law enforcment should be allowed to carry them and this petition has my full support. I also will be writing an essay on my views for my civics class, hoping that others will read it and will to, come to this website to sign this petition to ban the use of handguns. Sincerly, Mark E. Name: Paul Dase on Mar 29, 2007Country: CAState:Comments: I think that restricting firearms is the absolute dumbest thing i have ever heard the problem is in storage and the responsibe handling of the firearm. Everyone should have the right to have a gun, what would you do if you lived out in the country and someone came to rob you or a bear was attacking your son There is a place for guns and you people need to see that. There is no problem with guns it is how they are handled that causes the problem and bad people do not used registered guns anyways. the restriction of firearm will not stop the criminals from having them and to think that it would is just retarded.Flag

Regardless of whther handguns are banned or not, pepole wil still acquire them somehow. The key is education and focus on getting guns off the street. I have had handguns for years, taught all of my children gun safety and never had an incident. I keep over 40 guns in my house. Check you facts and don't just jump to misinformed conclusions.Flag

Name: Think For Yourself on Jan 18, 2008Country: CAState:Comments: You obviously have been brainwashed by your poorly educated parents. Sure, accidental handgun deaths are a tragedy, but tragic deaths happen every day. The Magna Carta stipulates that the Crown can't have rights that the citizens don't, and the Bill of Rights says that we have rights to bear arms as subjects of the Crown and their future heirs. The American forefathers knew that governments can become corrupted as easily as individuals, so they gave the power to the people to protect themselves by allowing them to bear arms. The States that allow their citizens to bear arms (even concealed arms) have a continuous reducing level of violence. Get and read the book "Freakanomics". In that book it examines this valid issue of concern you have. It compares two households with 2 parents and 3 children each. One household has handguns, and one household has a swimming pool. The family with the swimming pool is more likely to have a drowning death than the family with the gun. If you end up with more deaths due to guns, its probably only because more people own guns than swimming pools. You should stop letting your parents drive you around in the family car. Tell your friends the same thing, because one of you is more likely to die in a vehicular (that's a car, or a van) accident, than any of you would die from a handgun. Guns kill, but so do a thousand other things. Someone could walk up to you with a concealed stainless steel spoon in their hand, and thrust the long thin handle through your eardrum and into your brain, thus killing you. What then Would you then start a petition to ban stainless steel spoons, and only allow plastic spoons to be sold Where would it all stop It wouldn't, because you can't stop people from doing stupid things, and thus killing themselves or some other loved one. Don't judge a book by its cover. What appears to be deadly, may not be as deadly as you think. Take mixed martial arts for example, where people climb into a ring or a cage and then proceed to try and knock out or submit their opponent. Oftentimes, much blood is spilled. This sport has been practiced for well over ten years. Yet only 2 people have died. One person died of a stroke a few weeks after the fight, and the other person was told he would die if he fought again. Now lets look at marathons: Running seems harmless enough, yet approximately 27 people in the U.S. die every year from participating in a Marathon. You had better not use elevators either, because roughly the same amount of people die in those things every year. People die because of stupidity on someones part. We trust that products we buy and use won't hurt us, but they do. Making guns illegal would only mean that criminals would be the only ones to carry them, aside from the police. And the police can't possibly protect you. They are there to react after a crime has been committed, and they don't solve more than 50% of the murders. Remember, many things that seems simple are not simple. Banning handguns would just mean that people would find other ways to kill others, and if they are stupid enough to leave guns around for their kids to play with, then those kids would probably die from some other stupid thing the parents are responsible for. There are many stupid ways to die, and guns are just one of them. Do you really want to throw away the ability to protect yourself, and your future family just because of other stupid people's actions Check out Switzerland: Every family is required to have a gun, yet it is a very safe place to live. People kill, not guns.Flag

Name: Amy Patters on Mar 29, 2008Country: CAState:Comments: I'm sorry, but you seem to be rather misguided. Have you seen a handgun Fired it I thought not. Car accidents kill FAR more people, including children, a year. Do you honestly think people didn't kill people before guns where invented Handguns allow someone to make someone else stop doing something, immediately. They allow people who are physically weaker to stop a stronger attacker. Years ago, a large man thought I would be a good rape victim. After I drew my .45, he thought different. I told him to stay where he was, and I called the sheriff. The sheriff said this man had raped 3 women before, and killed every one of them. Without that gun, I wouldn't be talking to you.Flag

Name: Dennis Deluth on Apr 2, 2008Country: CAState:Comments: While I think taking on a cause is a worthy notion, especially one in the interest of the health and welfare of Canadian citizens. I do however think that your arguments in this case are misguided. The tragic deaths you mentioned are NOT a result of someone owning a gun, but rather the unsafe care of the firearm, Canadian regulations for all firearms require them to be stored locked, and unloaded. The fact that these deaths took place is tragic but by the same logic you should be looking to ban parents who do not buckle their kids in, or allow them to sit in the front seat of a vehicle, banned from ownership of a vehicle. Safe storage according to guidelines will not result in a death or serious injury. Canada has made it difficult to purchase firearms of any kind (a good thing and much better than the States mentality) and although accidents do happen, the majority of registered gun owners are responsible individuals who simply enjoy the sport of shooting. You should try it sometime it is a lot of fun.Flag

I truly feel bad for people who have lost someone to a crime(any crime)but this is not the answer. What people forget is that it's not the law-abiding handgun owner doing these crimes. His guns are locked up like Fort Knoxx! It's the CRIMINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the kids who found the unregistered handgun, who's the moron that put it thereFlag
