Comments: Hi Gwen, I quit a number of years ago after being such a heavy smoker that I wouldn't go to movies as it was too long without a cigarette! The trick that made the difference to me was to write down all of the reasons I wanted to be a non-smoker: to feel free to go to movies; to feel healthier; to have more money; to be able to sit in non-smoking in a restaurant; to not smell of smoke...... Then think about the feeling of not smoking (the feeling that comes before you are good at being a non-smoker!). Preferrably start this a week before you quit. And concentrate on that feeling that you know you are going to get and are probably dreading. Only change the script. ie; "I am so "excited" to be a non-smoker" "I can't wait to be a non-smoker" "I am going to be so proud"... it has the same sort of feeling only it is very positive. So when you are overwhelmed with the anxiousness of withdrawl there are positives that counteract! I spent about 20 mins per day just medidating on the positives, quit cold turkey (this was before the patch and zyban) and I believe it made the difference! I have never met anyone who regrets quitting! Good luck. Pauline
