Dear Mr. Obama:

If you are serious about curbing gun violence, I have a suggestion on where to start. Repeal the 2005 law passed by Congress that shields gun makers from lawsuits that would seek to hold them liable for crimes committed with weapons they sold.

THAT would spark REAL change in behavior of gun companies similar to what happened to tobacco companies. Remember the days before cigarettes were practically made illegal? Back then, people and lawmakers were saying the same thing about the power and invincibility of tobacco companies.

We don't have to fight the Second Amendment. People have the right to bear arms just as the public can still buy cigarettes. But by making the manufacturers financially liable for irresponsible marketing and sales of dangerous products, we force them to be part of the solution rather than allowing them to be immune from the problem their product creates.
