We Oppose Drone Warfare Drones, also called “Unmanned Arial Vehicles” or UAVs, are military aircraft with no pilot on board We, the undersigned, ask all local, state, and federal representatives to end drone training, maintenance and warfare based at Hancock Field, Syracuse International Airport, NY and elsewhere in this region, because: 1. Drones used in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries have killed hundreds of innocent civilians, violating just war principles 2. Drones violate International and US law on political assassinations 3. Intelligence used in target selection is notoriously unreliable 4. Drone operators and their supervisors function as witness, investigator, prosecutor, judge, executioner outside the rule of law 5. Killing (by computer command) of an unknown person many thousands of miles away is morally offensive 6. Such killings creates collateral damage especially of innocent civilians, which fuels the desire for revenge and increases terrorism 7. Drone training in this region poses a risk for civilian aircraft, and the technical failures that lead to rogue drones crashing are a risk to all people in this region.
