In the early hours of 24th May, 2010 there was a very dangerous fire at a chemical plant in Linthwaite, West Yorkshire.

The fire sent potentially dangerous fumes down through the beautiful countryside of the Colne Valley. People who witnessed the smoke described it as a thick, burning smoke which stuck in the throat. The fire, which resulted in approx 10 explosions was only hours away from disaster. A result of the brave firefighters from Huddersfield and Greater Manchester in over 100 fire engines managed to bring the fire under control. If the fire would have reached the bulk storage tanks then the results could have been unthinkable.

Schools were closed, roads disrupted, rivers and canals polluted, wildlife killed and the longer term effects will be unknown for a number of years.

The aim of this petition is to get enough signatures to pass onto our local MP so discussions can be opened in regard to the benefit versus potential danger of having a chemical factory in the Colne Valley.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you believe that the Colne Valley and our way of life is worth fighting for then please sign our petition.
