Keith LoweI have been so very fond of the Cathedral Greehouse for many years. It is a special, unique place for our community. I hope that you will consider keeping it open.
Toby SymingtonThe Greenhouse is both a national and religious treasure -- at a time when so many people feel socially uprooted and cut off from the natural world, the Greenhouse keeps faith with some of our richest and most organic traditions from the past --
Kathy LoveI always look forward to visiting The Greenhouse when I am in Washington, D. C. and urge you to reconsider it's closing for the above stated reasons.

Lynne N. MitchellSince my daughter first attended Beauvoir in 1973 the greenhouse has been a wonderful resource, especially at Christmas where the green selection is bar none. Please reconsider what loosing this resource would mean to the greater Cathedral mission. Beauty is an important part of worship.
Mary Anne TuoheyThe Greenhouse is an important part of the Washington neighborhood. I hope you will find a way to keep it open.
Carla MooseWhen the full import of the Catherdral Greenhouse to the commuity is understood I trust and hope that those empowered to make decisions for its future will make sure there is a future. Thank you.
Joan WetmoreClosing the greenhouse would eliminate a very important form of community outreach, as the response to the announcement shows. If the shortfall can be traced to the Cathedral's huge new facilities it would be good to be more outspoken about that. Possibly there is another solution to the problem.
Renee Schilhab BullockPlease contract out the greenhouse to an independent operator. I have a horticulture background and live across the street. I would love to have an opportunity to discuss renting the greenhouse facility from the Cathedral and operating it as a resource for the community. Please call me at 202-251-9901

Gillian ThompsonAs a little girl in 1974 I would go to the cathedral with my mother to see the artisans at work, attend services and walk the gardens. We moved away from the D.C. area many years ago, but when we come for our yearly visit it has become a family tradition to visit the green house to see the lovely plants. Most all my herbs that are in my garden here in Ohio are from the Cathedral Greenhouse. I am quite distressed to hear that this lovely part of my personal history being threatened. As a glass artist who was influenced so much by the beauty and craft represented at the Washington Cathedral, I urge you to not close the Greenhouse. It is too integral.
Kitty Yore SmithI have loved buying plants and pots from the greenhouse and always show them to friends, if not give them to friends. When my cousin Veronica died, I was amazed to find Veronica plants in the greenhouse, the only place I see them, and i buy them once a year in her memory. Kitty Yore Smith
Sheilah GloverI remember that Greenhouse with such fondness. As a child, it taught me the power of plants with their vibrant colors and good green smells. It adds an earthiness to the loftiness of the Cathedral!

Judith C. EliottI fail to understand the reason for closing the popular greenhouse. Closing a financially viable place surely can't address the problems you face.

Rebecca LombardiThis green house is such an important part of DC history and culture, please keep it running!
Janet RiversI support saving the Greenhouse!

AnonymousI've been a resident of the DC area for 30 years. I have spent many happy hours visiting, shopping and loving the Cathedral greenhouse. Please don't close it. Thank you.
Kevin J. ParkerFrom a gardening perspective, I have found plants for my yard unavailable at any nearby garden centers. From a community perspective, I think that the Cathedral needs to do more -- particularly after blocking off the east side of Wisconsin Avenue for over a year to construct a garage -- without any accommodation given to the elderly or other pedestrians.
Polly LawrenceI have become aware that there is an outpouring of caring concerning the continuation of the Cathedral Greenhouse. I certainly join in this concern and do support the request for a reconsideration.

Carleton MacDonaldMy wife and I have visited and patronized the greenhouse many times over the past 20 years. It is a beautiful part of the Cathedral, it attracts people who then visit the other shops, maybe go on a tour, attend a concert, listen to the bells, maybe attend services and even make a donation. I cannot imagine that the greenhouse does not contribute to the Cathedral's cash flow. The church will be greatly diminished if it is gone, it will hurt the Cathedral's goal to have more people visit, and the empty space left behind will be sad and depressing. Don't do it - please leave it open for the visitors, the neighborhood, the city, and the glory of God. Carleton MacDonald Cathedral Bell Ringer

Betty McDonaldPlease reconsider closing the greenhouse. It is a cherished, long-time neighborhood tradition.
AnonymousSince 1966, when I lived near the Cathedral, the greenhouse has been a touch stone for me. When I returned to Washington after a prolonged absence, the greenhouse was a place I sought for "grounding". Eventually I worked there and enjoyed the association with the Institution as well as the people with whom I worked. If my experience is indicative of the pull the Greenhouse has on individuals, it would be a sad day when it was torn down for parking or more offices. Bring in new blood to revive it, but don't tear down the Greenhouse.
Elizabeth LangThe greenhouse IS the cathedral. I can't imagine one without the other.

William FallsOur friend Diane Lewis found her "dream job" at the greenhouse last year, only to have this delight, and important source of income, destroyed by your decision.

Liza GookinI am a native Episcopalian Washingtonian whose youth offers fond memories of the greenhouse--and I go there still! Please reconsider.

Fay ArmstrongI have been shopping at the Green House for most of my 32 years in DC. It is a wonderful alternative to the megastores that are multiplying around us. Please do not take this treasure away.

Ms. Ronnie J KwellerAs a member of the Newark Street Community Garden, I shop at the Cathedral Greenhouse annually and particularly cherish your heirloom tomato plants. I hope you can find a way to save the greenhouse, which is a valuable community resource. We have all too few locally-owned businesses in DC. Please don't take this one away. Sincerely, Ronnie J Kweller DC
Dianne DaleWhat a travesty to do away with an integral part of the Cathedral experience that a visit to the greenhouse has become. To suggest that Home Depot can replace it is to deny the spiritual connection one feels walking through the greenhouse, the sense of peace and appreciation for the beauty of nature, the sense of permanency and longevity that the 60-year-old structure provides. I have been visiting the Cathedral since I was a child and cannot imagine not being able to walk through the greenhouse and smell the earth and see what's growing and feel the serenity that only gardens and growing things can bring. To suggest that a chain store can replace this intimate connection is to miss the point altogether and might suggest that perhaps empathy is lacking. Curious in a man of the Dean's stature.
Janet KaplanI have enjoyed the greenhouse at the cathedral for many years. As a non-Christian, the greenhouse and the garden festival are my main interactions with the cathedral.
karol keanei would think the greenhouse would attract folks who wouldn't normally come to the cathedral. as a dc native, the greenhouse is my favorite place in town. i always direct out of town friends there. i maintain it's the best place in town to shake the february blues.
Marjorie WolfePlease do not close one of my very favorite place to go in Washington. Thank you!
Kathie HeplerGod is green!
Margot AndersonI think that the greenhouse provides such a beautiful living tribute to the joy and beauty of God on the Cathedral close. Pleas let's keep this!
