Harv LesterI live near the Cathedral and often visit both the Cathedral and its greenhouse shop. The greenhouse is a lovely place to be able to slow down and reflect in a lovely setting. I am very disturbed that the Cathedral's management has decided to shut down the greenhouse. It has been a wonderful contribution to the local community for an extensive period of time. I must admit that I am very confused by the stated rationale -- at least the one that I have read in the newspapers -- for shutting it down: that, in a post-9/11 world, it no longer fits with the Cathedral's future vision. I've not read of any plans to shut down the large lower-level gift shop at the Cathedral, which seems to be even more commercial and less a part of a "post-9/11" vision than a greenhouse that contributes to a community. I hope that the Cathedral management will seriously reconsider what I believe is a very short-sighted decision.
Jessica AlthausI can't believe you would take away the green house! Where is Catherine of Aragon going to live ?? Shame on those who care more for how the church looks to the world then how the church cares for their own!

Elizabeth A. HickeyI grew up in Washington and have observed the Cathedral fo some 60 years. When I was groing up, it was a plus to live near the Cathedral. Over the years, I have observed the Cathedral to be somewhat of a nuisance to its neighbors, with all the increased traffic, tour busses, inconveniences caused by security concerns, construction problems, etc. While the Cathedral is taking its mission national and global, it might want to consider doing something nice for its more immediate neighbors, such as keeping the greenhouse which means a lot to some of us.

Jennifer & MarkWe are neighbors to the Cathedral and customers of the Greenhouse. PLEASE don't close it. The neighborhood won't be the same without it. I love shopping there on the weekends for herbs and flowers. Please let us know what it will take to prevent closing the greenhouse. We'd like to help however we can.
Pat WhiteakerPlease save this unique and special place.
Norma and Richard TaliaferroThe Cathedral Greenhouse is as much a gift to the community as the Cathedral itself. Many people who treasure the Greenhouse probably would respond enthusiastically to the opportunity to help establish a "Friends of the Greenhouse" society and then to make yearly donations earmarked for operation of the Greenhouse. The request stated in Item 6 above is reasonable and should be honored. Please allow those of us who cherish the Greenhouse have the opportunity to work for its continuation, in whatever form that may take.
Rhoda TrooboffSince our children were at Beauvoir in the late 1970's, we have been regular Greenhouse customers who greatly appreciate the kindness and expertise of the staff, the quality of the plant materials, and the satisfaction of raising flowers, herbs, and vegetables that come from the Cathedral's hallowed space. Losing the Greenhouse would be a great loss to us.
Diana ReynoldsPlease save the Greenhouse! Visiting the greenhouse has become an integral and joyful part of my and my children's day at Beauvoir.
Mary Beth O'QuinnThe greenhouse is more pertinent that ever! Do you know about the "Edible Estates" program -- a new teaching toolkit for raising one's own food in your front yard garden -- tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, even asparagras. The Green house has been doing this for years! The Green house is the ministry of the moment --- do not take it away!
AnonymousI love the Cathedral and the greenhouse. One of the things I appreciate most about the Cathedral is its holistic integration into the land, community, and history. I cherish the traditional Evensongs, the Bishop's Garden, and the Greenhouse as much as I do the Cathedral itself. Additionally, and more minorly, I live nearby and do not have a car and find this a great source of plants, which greatly enhance my apartment.

Tracey Brown JamesI am a 1985 graduate if the National Cathedral School. The Cathedral Greenhouse must he saved. There are many of us who are ready and willing to help save the greenhouse.

C. R. OberonNever forget that the Cathedral Greenhouse is often the only interaction some members of the local community have with the Cathedral.

Terry AndersonStewardship of God's green earth is part of the cathedral's mission. I can't imagine coming to the cathedral and seeing an empty space where the greenhouse used to be.

Susan HarlemThe greenhouse is a valuable and unique resource for plant purchases and information. Please keep it going - a wonderful component of the Cathedral complex.

Barbara KatzThe Greenhouse at the Cathedral is priceless. Please do not close it.
Mr. and Mrs. John B. Carr Jr.Please don't use the space for another conference center. We love the greenhouse. There are a lot of problems in the Church. Our membership roles have dropped significantly in the last ten years. Please address these issues and keep something which encourages people to come to the cathedral. You don't need more parking lots and conference centers, do you, really? Thanks for your reconsideration. John Carr

Ana Tejblum EvansI am a neighbor of the Cathedral, and have lived in Cleveland Park for 15 years. The greenhouse brings the Cathedral into the lives of people, and is a treasured asset of our city.

Patricia FirstI am so sad to see this happening and I plan to withdraw my Cathedral membership if the greenhouse closes.
Jane InceFor both the community and tourists who discover the Cathedral Greenhouse, it is a remarkable offering. An integral part of the Cathedral itself, this sweet place showcases the importance of beauty -- here, convening with nature. Our family over the years loved coming here, often finding flowers and herbs to plant in our garden at home; we loved the Cathedral connection.
