| 802 | Richard W Rutherford | I want to lend my name to the notion that the greenhouse is an essential part of the Cathederal that is worthy of preserving. I seriously question the fiscal stewardship of the Cathederal under Dean Lloyd's tenure and believe that this action in some ways is a poor way of addressing poor management. |
| 803 | Julia Schoo | The Greenhouse is such a unique aspect of the Cathedral. It's welcoming and makes the Cathedral seem available to people in their every-day lives. It would be a shame to lose it. |
| 804 | Katharine Zeigler | The Cathedral Greenhouse and Gardens have been a pert of my life for over 25 years. As a young mother and bride living in DC, I took my then small son to visit the Greenhouse and grounds on a regular basis. In the ensuing years, following my return home to the South, I have always included a trip to the Greenhouse on my trips back to the City to visit old friends. It is a very sacred and special spot for me as I know it is for many and I would hate to see it disappear. Please reconsider this decision and find a way to keep her open and vibrant. I was truly sick when I saw the article. |

| 809 | Alayne Thorpe | The Cathedral is an architectural marvel and evidence of the talents that God has given man. However, the Greenhouse is a reminder that God is still the greatest builder and Creator. Is it really ok to sacrifce this modest, beautiful reminder of the world God created in order to serve the vast monument that humankind built in memory of God's creation? It seems a sad irony. |
| 810 | margaret walker | I think there is no better proof of a greater power than our natural world. Stained glass windows inspire, sermons inform, but the beauty of nature gives proof. In our ever-increasing cement covered world, the cathedral's greenhouse is a sanctuary to be at one with our maker. |

| 817 | Anonymous | Please don't close the Cathedral Greenhouse. It is a historical gem,a asset to the church grounds and the community. I was heartbroken to read in the Washington Post that the Greenhouse would close at the end of June. The National Cathedral is a very special place ,that should hold on to it's own Garden of Eden. |
| 818 | Stuart Ball | The greenhouse is a peaceful, relaxing, even spirtual place that is entirely appropriate for the close and consistent with the cathedral's mission. The foundation would do well to look at other, larger budget items for cost savings. |
| 819 | Claudia Boswell | This greenhouse is so heavily used by the community, how can it not be part of the Cathedral's mission. |
| 820 | Anonymous | Prior to final decision to close the Greenhouse on Cathedral grounds, I would ask that you make public the profit/loss statements for past 3 years and the cost-benefit analysis for shutting it down.
This integral part of the grounds and neighborhood could possibly be sustained if cutbacks were made in areas of international outreach in the Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation and in staff for DC projects. |
| 821 | Yvonne Eggenberger, Swiss Embassy | For me the Greenhouse has been a vital part of the National Cathedral. When the Swiss Embassy was guest country at the Flower Mart 2005 I was part of the organizing team (decorations) and I could (and would) not have done it without the great and competent support of the Greenhouse. For the past years, I also relied on the Greenhouse for the superb selection of herbs for my herb garden. In addition, I valued it as a place for meaningful special gifts. PLEASE KEEP IT ALIVE! |
| 822 | Linette Lander | When a unique landmark is on the verge of disappearing, one really has to wonder -- what are they thinking? I could assume the worst, but I hope I am wrong. Plenty of development in the region already. No other place in the close-in vicinity with the look, feel, ambiance, plants, gardening resources of the Cathedral Greenhouse.
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone
They paved Paradise and
Put up a parking lot.
PLEASE RECONSIDER. This is not the community-spirited National Cathedral that I have come to know and love over my 27 years of residence in the Washington Metropolitan Area. |

| 825 | Sun Bear-Chippewa Tribe | I do not think the measure of a civilization
is how tall its buildings of concrete are,
But rather how well its people have learned to relate
to their environment and fellow man.

| 826 | Janet Zwick | I cannot imagine not being able to wake up reallizing it is Spring - and marking that change by walking up the big hill to the greenhouse to get herbs and flowers. The greenhouse has given my family great pleasure over the years... |

| 828 | Deb Friedman | |
| 829 | Alex van Oss | There is more to a greenhouse than is immediately apparent. It, too, is part of "outreach." If you get rid of the greenhouse, then there is nothing tangible and alive that can be be taken home from the National Cathedral. Everything else is pre- packaged (e.g. an herb) or an object (soap, crucifix gargoyle)--or a sensory memory (bells, stained glass windows, a sermon or hymn). But nothing that can grow in one's own garden. |

| 833 | Elizabeth Koniuszkow | any chance you may consider finding a commercial or non-profit operator to take over running the greenhouse? |

| 835 | Alison Martin | In addition to the functions outlined in the petition, I have felt the contrast in the small scale and humble business next to the huge, ornate national cathedral creates a paradox that can be a spiritual door. |
| 836 | sharon cress | PLEASE PLEASE |
| 837 | hope phillips | I lived in a home across the street from the cathedral for many years. My children were raised to learn about plants because we visited the greenhouse several times a week.
I visit there frequently to purchase herbs and plants. All of my guests are brought to the cathedral to visit the greenhouse and grounds as well as the cathedral itself.
Please consider the value of this lovely service has provided to the community cannot be equated in dollars. The Greenhouse is as spiritually uplifting as are the bells and the blessings. |
| 838 | Lisa Burrow | A precious resource. |

| 845 | katherine j williams | The freshest, strongest herbs come from your greenhouse as well as the most beautifiul plants. Just a trip there to browse brings one to the calm grounds of the Cathedral and offers a spiritual respite from the busy world. |

| 847 | Anita Reichert | The greenhouse is a vital part of the community and the Cathedral. Please do whatever you can to keep it open so that it can continue to nurture the souls of current and future generations! |

| 849 | Mark Gourley | Please save the Greenhouse. We browse and buy plants every time we go to DC. |
