It has grown into a full garden over the years and I can remember which age I was when I bought each flowering plant. I will always think of this place as the place that got me started as a garden, becuase i was always so moved after leaving the sanctuary and then coming out and seeing God's natural giftsFlag

Name: Ann Marie Plubell on Jun 1, 2008Comments: Efficient operation of a cathedral greenhouse is a ministry. It is to be differentiated from commercial greenhouse enterprises. It must be approached as such and, while any ministry must be fiscally sound, its mission must also be respectfully considered. As a supporter of the Cathedral, I am particularly concerned that any decision related to the continuing operation of the Greenhouse ministry-or any of the Cathedrals ministries be well-analyzed, thoroughly considered, thoughtful and prayerful. The review process should also be transparent and well-documented. I ask the Foundation to defer a closing decision, analyze the greenhouse mission and function, prepare a business plan for its fiscal viability and only then determine what the greenhouse ministrys eventual organizational structure should be. As a personal matter, after the death of my father, I have found comfort and solace for a grieving heart and glimpses of spiritual joy among the greenhouse plants, talking to the staff (and rabbits, birds and cat) and observing the natural cycles of life and resurrection the greenhouse tangibly manifests. That is its mission.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 1, 2008Comments: A three year history of the economics of the Greenhouse is a starting point, but of does not adequately address the management shortcomings that got them there nor the remedial actions that should have taken place and remain need to put the Greenhouse on firm financial footing. One thing that stands out for me in the closing of the Green House is that no mention at all has been made of the to-date steps taken to increase the profitability of the Greenhouse. There has been no release of any information on the programs or efforts taken to date -- i.e. plans, goals or programs to increase the profitability of the green house. Its like they just didnt try to adequately address the issue, because the have another agenda. If they had informed their members, contributors and customers of the problem and solicited their support and it had still failed it would have been one thing. But to just drop it with no discussion is irresponsible. Nursery and greenhouse consultants can be sought on a pro bono basis. Like any non profit organization trying to maintain a balanced budget; they need to review all elements of their operation Product mix and pricing. Display, advertising etc. They need to reduce their costs and adjust their pricing as other Organizations are doing in light of the current economy.Flag

I think of the Garden of Eden. And I bring small representatives of that garden to my home, share with my friends, enjoy..... The plants are so very special because of where I bought them. They are like no others. Please do not take this joy and peace away from me and others like me. Teach the children to appreciate the garden, expand the greenhouse - don't close it!Flag
