Please sign this petition to have the City of Edmonton declare the Green Onion Cake the "Official Dish of Edmonton"! Can we get 5000 Yeggers to support this worthy cause? Why? Why not!?!?

You can check out some rationale at www.greenonioncakes.com/category/history

Together maybe we can make this happen:

Every citizen of Edmonton should know the answer to the question “I’m coming to Edmonton, what should I eat?”

We could see our tireless leader Mayor Iveson in full regalia. I see Siu To on the stage, as well as some of our prolific Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sunfood writers. Maybe Stephanie Dubois and Sarah Hoyles (for their early support and promotion). Judy Shultz the first reviewer of the EGOC. Shirley Lowe, Edmonton’s venerable historian laureate. The eternally helpful Mary Sturgeon, of Make Something Edmonton. Linda Tzang, of the Royal Alberta Museum who publicly introduced the green onion cake as an “Edmonton Thing” . And maybe Edmonton’s unofficial chronicler Todd Babiak can write the story.

A local artist could unveil a tribute piece to our fair EGOC.

We could have a photo op of everybody digging in – HARD.

Come on people! Let's get 'er done

Lived in Edmonton for 28 years and grew up on these.. first had them at the "Mongolian Food Experience" which was at that time in the Glenora district, they offer them everywhere these days, the best place to have them now is Good Buddy IMO,. they are fluffy/puffed up there and they serve them with vinegar + chile oil!

I lived in Edmonton for nine years and fell in love! I had to move back to Ontario and I am seriously depressed that I just can't find Edmonton Green Onion Cakes here ...specifically the donut shaped flaky kind.

As an Edmonton born son living in Hamilton, I wholeheartedly support this petition. I have had many a green onion cake, starting with the legendary Mongolian Food Experience on Rice Howard Way, and now I make my own regularly to remind me of home.

It's not an Asian thing, but an Edmonton thing. You can't find green onion cake even in dim sum restaurants outside of Edmonton.

Yes. The green onion cake is the official snack of Edmonton. Sure perogies, pho tai, donair and butter chicken poutine all have their place at the yeg table. But the green onion cake is Edmonton's signature street food, our unique festival goodie.
