Thousands of University Ife Alumni from the 70s/80s have been engaged in a memory-fest of nostalgia, with a passionate appreciation for the wonderful experience of their years at Great Ife, where the foundations of their lives were laid.

They have been reconnecting in a rapidly growing FaceBook Group - Golden Years of GREAT IFE - mid70s-mid80s - which has seen many personal stories shared and topics explored, including the remarkably sophisticated vision of the founding fathers as reflected in the landscaping and architectural splendor of the campus.

In discovering and highlighting the role of Israeli Architect Arieh Sharon (May 28, 1900-July 24, 1984) in the conceptualisation and design of the campus, it became glaring to a few alumni, that by commission or omission, nothing seems to have been done to honour or commemorate his remarkable and visionary genius whose role has been largely silent and nearly forgotten, enduring only in the beauty of the buildings and the far-sighted masterplan.

This petition, with the support of members of the group as well as alumni from the earliest years of the University, seeks to request that the University consider a proposal to give posthumous recognition to Arieh Sharon by dedicating and naming a campus facility such as a building or a road or plaza after him. It has been suggested for instance that the building housing school of architecture so dedicated, would be a fitting and appropriate honour.
