The petition

Dear Fellow Students,

I ask you to sign this petition as a means to support a Presidential Debate at Boston University between two of our most overlooked Presidential Candidates, former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel and Republican Congressman Ron Paul, both of whom have refused to conform to today’s political constructions.

In the months prior, we have seen numerous debates on both sides of the aisle; yet, these two candidates in particular have not been given a fair chance to voice their opinions on issues concerning Americans today.

I urge you to put aside personal differences in candidate preference on either side of the aisle, and instead, sign this petition as a means to engage and edify our student body with a broader range of issues and policies.

On the right panel of this page, you will find a brief biography of each candidate as well as links pertaining to their political stand on the current issues.

Again, please support this petition to bring two of America’s most free-minded thinkers to Boston University this fall.

Brief Biographies

Former Senator Mike Gravel:

Mike Gravel is the former Democratic United States Senator from Alaska for two terms, from 1969 to 1981. He was born in Springfield, MA and raised in a working class neighborhood. He is primarily known for being one of the first political officials to oppose nuclear energy, and for making public the Pentagon Papers—a collection of secret government documents pertaining to the Vietnam War. However, his most important achievement was to embark on a one-man filibuster that eventually led to the end of the Vietnam War draft.

Congressman Ron Paul:

Rep. Ron Paul grew up in Pennsylvania and is the Republican Congressman of Lake Jackson, Texas. He began his career as a medical doctor, and in 1978 was elected to Congress. In 1988, he ran for President under the Libertarian Party. Many consider him a constitutionalist, or in other words, wanting to reshape America to the way the founding fathers had wanted it to be. He voted against both the USA Patriot Act and the Iraq War.
