Grandparent rights in Washington State

Grandparents have no rights in Washington State. This is the only state in the Union who does not recognize or support the important role of Grandparents and thriving of the grandchild(ren). This petition specifically is designed to encourage change for Grandparents before the children are taken and after the children are removed. Once the children are taken, only Washington State has power and authority - an authority set up by the State itself with specific laws governing and supporting state exclusive domination over the family and extended family. We the People and Families of Washington State require: 1. That Grandparents begin to get recognized as a viable authority within the system of families not just the State or CASA. 2. Grandparents are more familiar with the family system and are often The Voice of the Children. 3. Grandparents and other family members should be offered the opportunity to parent the grandchildren before dependency is established not just after. Speedy placement with relatives should be law. 4. Educate the community about the process of dependency and what to do before dependency is established. This education should be made readily available to all persons and a priority in regards to continued family unification. 5. Visitation allowed with grandparents if there is dependency so that the grandchild(ren) can continue the established relationship 6. A provision for mediation of conflicted core families with extended families

  • Lee Kasper There is absolutely no reason for the state to adhere to one Superior Court judge decision to overturn the grandparents rights law!
Due to one case all grandparents in the state lose their rights, that is not the way of the American people !
In my case along with many other cases in Washington state and all across the country it is detrimental to the child to not have contact with the grandparents, the Grand parent or grandparents could be the child's only rock!
To our state legislators; please have a hard look at this situation and put yourself in the shoes of the child who may be close to the grandparent or grandparents, realize how detrimental it would be if you're only stability was taken away from you and the only person that you truly loved you were not allowed to see!
In my case I raise my grandson for many years and he is now 12 years old. His mother has been abusive to him and she is a very controlling person and has many problems with her temper, my grandson is afraid of her and he is now live with her for the last one year looking forward to every chance he had to see me, but after my daughter had assaulted me in front of her son and nearly struck him in the face with the sharp end of a pole saw , The police said the grandchild would go with her as she made arrangements for him to be picked up as she was taken to jail .
My daughter later got bailed out of jail and I have not seen my grandson since then!
Consider this "why is it that children turn to drugs and crime is it because the parent leave them home alone, or is it because of the parent beats on the child or is it because the child is always treated like a servant or worse possibly a slave!
While the parent is mainly concerned about his or her well-being and not the child's well-being , this can be very damaging to the child's mental health.
Perhaps the Superior Court needs to reconsider the ruling for the best interest of the child !
I am willing to take the case of grandparents rights to Washington state lawmakers therefore I signed this petition and pray on behalf of the children that we can get this law changed!

    A child needs love !
