Do you think the below email has points that do not survive close scrutiny? do you feel that this ruins the chance for many to attend their own graduation, because they are studying a masters elsewhere, international students unable to come back in September, or anyone who has a job by then where time off is not the easies thing ever? (these are but a few reasons) THEN PLEASE SIGN THIS! Good afternoon, Further to my email of 21 June regarding the timing of this year’s graduation (attached for information), I am pleased to confirm that the graduation ceremonies for 2010-11 will take place in the week of 12-16 September 2011, at the Princess Pavilion, Falmouth. Much consideration was given to the timing, particularly as this involves a move away from previous years when graduation across the three campuses was in June/July (Tremough and Woodlane-based students) and November (students who studied at the Dartington Campus). However, September was agreed to be the optimal time for several reasons, including the following: * students whose assessment has been deferred due to extenuating circumstances, or who have had an element of their work referred at the June assessment boards, will be able to graduate with their cohort; * students who have submitted appeals should have completed that process so will be graduating with a confirmed result; * this timing will avoid the clashes that several awards have between graduation and major national shows/competitions which require students and staff to make additional journeys between Falmouth and London in order to manage attendance both at graduation and the other events which are critical for professional opportunities; * students under investigation of alleged academic misconduct are more likely to be in a position to graduate with their cohort; * this allows appropriate time for the assessment of work and confirmation of results, without reducing the term-time available for students to develop and submit work; * this places graduation outside of the high tourist season so travel and accommodation are more manageable; however, the weather is still reasonable. Confirmation will be available early in 2011 for which awards will graduate on which days that week. Please watch the intranet and your University College email accounts for that information in the first instance. Regards
