This petition voices the support of legislation requiring all Texas Tech University Professors, Teaching Assistants and Instructors to have tests, quizzes and all assignments available for review within two weeks’ time of completion. Rising tuition rates are an undeniable reality for all students attending Texas Tech University. It is becoming more and more difficult every year for students to attend because of financial difficulty and today’s economic climate only hardens the burden. It is a reasonable expectation for the quality in the classroom at Texas Tech University to reflect the amount that students are paying. As a division I University, Texas Tech should be constantly looking for ways to improve the student/instructor relationships and communication regarding grades and academic concerns. Students should be mature, persistent peoples who are always striving to obtain the very best education by constantly staying in close contact with their instructors. However, students cannot grade their own papers. Precisely two weeks after completion, students should have their tests, quizzes and assignments available for review so they are able to manage their growth effectively throughout the semester. One cannot know if they are lost if they do not know where they are standing. This is a positive change and a great step forward for Texas Tech University, not only in maintaining retention rates, but as a University with the attending students’ best interests at heart.
