The Future of Gordon School Petition

PETITION

To the Minister of Education of the Province of British Columbia

We, the undersigned residents of the Kitsilano community draw the attention of the Minister to the following:

THAT General Gordon Elementary School is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with a smaller building;

THAT the current plan eliminates the existing child care program (JKC), cannot provide the current level of community services, does not address the environmental impact of the project, does not consider the historic value of the school; and

THAT this decision was made without proper community notification as required by the City and the Vancouver School Board, and without any meaningful consultation with community members

THEREFORE,

your petitioners call upon the Minister to immediately halt the upcoming vote on the plan by the Vancouver School Board Trustees and to establish a public process which includes the Gordon school community and the Gordon neighborhood community.
