Those who have purchased homes in the Gold Ridge area of Fairfield, California, were promised by developers a master planned community with greenbelt areas and an 8-acre park.
The city of Fairfield has the allotted funds to build Gold Ridge Park and will form a citizens committee in 2007 to help design this park according to the needs and wishes of the neighboring community. Planning for this park will probably take 6 to 9 months. Depending on how the design process goes, the first funding of the park is slated for 2007 or 2008. Construction for this park is slated for 2008.
However, there is a catch . . . when the city gave permission to build in our area 10 years ago; they did not anticipate a General Fund shortage. There are no tax dollars designated in the General Fund for the maintenance of our park currently. Neither is there any designation for park maintenance with any other tax dollars we pay. Therefore, we in the Gold Ridge area do not have any tax dollars specifically designated for the maintenance of our park. It is anticipated that the maintenance of our park will cost approximately $80,000 per year. Without maintenance dollars designated, Gold Ridge Park cannot be built.
We want the city to know that we, in the Gold Ridge area are highly motivated to get our park project underway. We, the residents of Gold Ridge, want to partner with the city to find the additional funds needed to maintain our park.
We do not want a delay in the construction of our park and want to work now in finding maintenance dollars, so that Gold Ridge park can be built.
A park is vital in our area because:
- higher density housing has lent itself to a feeling of being overcrowded
- children do not have open spaces to play in and have been seen playing in the streets and median strip, which is a safety hazard
- the proximity of our area and being surrounded by high traffic roads, does not allow us easy access to other open spaces in Fairfield
- we do not have access to public transportation to utilize recreational activities in other parts of Fairfield
