Name: Anonymous on Jul 23, 2008Comments: I delivered all 3 of my children at GNGH & received fantastic care in 1990, 1993 and 1997. I could not have imagined having to travel much more distance than within Niagara Falls to have delivered. As stated in the petition; the birthing process can be unpredictable!Flag

Name: Dino Fazio on Jul 23, 2008Comments: While I understand the financial issues faced by NHS, the detrimental ramifications to Niagara Falls of closing the maternity ward are significant. How can we claim to be a "world-class" destination playing host to 10+ million people every year and then not have a basic service like delivering babies available. Longer-term, think of the consequences of a lost identity. In 75 years, you'd be hard-pressed to find a person who can boast that they were born in aurguably the most recognizable city in the world - Niagara Falls. You must find alternatives to closing the maternity ward in Niagara Falls.Flag

I would not mind if I got more for my money, however constant cutbacks will just be giving me thought to reconsidering where I live. We need a maturnity dept. in Niagara Falls.Flag

Name: Ginger B on Jul 23, 2008Comments: My husband and I were both born at GNGH, as were many of our family members, all long-time Niagara Falls residents. We want our baby, expected in November, to share our same birthplace. All it takes is a look at our family tree, stretching back to the 1600s, to see that as generations pass, one's name, birth date & birthplace seem to be all that is left. To have a birthplace that has nothing to do with where we lived our lives risks us losing pieces of our family history. We do not consider ourselves residents of the Niagara Region; we are proud to call our hometown Niagara Falls. That is what is at risk - our identity.Flag
