Name: Debbie Stewart on Mar 19, 2010Comments: I can't believe our justice systems allow such an injustice. One of my sons was in jail in Henderson Co. Jail in Athens,Tx and one of my sons was in Smith Co Jail, in Tyler,Tx. My third son is serving time in Bradshaw State Jail in Henderson, Tx. I try my hardest to keep money on their commisary and on their prepaid phone accounts but their is a big difference between these two county jails (which by the way are approx 30 miles from each other). Henderson County (which is also a local # for my cell) uses Infinity Network, I don't have to just put $25 or $50 on his account just has to be a minimum of $25, then using the 1-800# (automated) and in addition the the amount you are adding to their account Infinity charges you a $4.50 "processing fee". The fee is the same for either amount you add. And the phone calls cost the same everytime which about $4.00 per call. I have had calls drop before, in fact several, but if you call the cust. serv. number and give them the info, they have credited me my dropped calls. Now lets talk about Smith County Jail, Tyler, Tx.(which is not local for me) and what we HAVE to do if we want to talk to our loved ones...we have to use GLOBAL TEL LINK.....now let's look at the difference...If I use GTL website to add funds to my sons account I enter the amount I want added, which has to be either $25 or $50 and then GTL adds a "convenience fee" of $9.50 to whichever amount you enter. Now if you add money via the 800#, you put which amount you are adding and they tell you they are subtracting the "convience fee" from the amount you just added. And these fees are NEVER the same amount. Also, every phone call I get from him and talk the same "exact" 15 min. all calls were over $10 and never the same amount. Finally I had enough, I went and bought a cell phone and got a local # for the jail in Smith Co., well, I used the internet and added funds to his account, I put $50 on there ($59.50 incl. fee) and after my son called me on a now "local" number the call was only $6.50, now keep in mind all these calls are "exactly" 15 min long, the next night when he called it went over $10 for that call. Well, after a very few days I added another $50 on his card & after his first call bal was $37.25 ($12.75 call), next call cost us $14.75. Prices kept going up with every call we made. Out of $50 we got 3 calls from him. You get no credits for lost calls...and the list goes on and on. GTL and the way they literally kick and steal from people when we are down, already dealing with loved ones being locked up. I don't think I ever heard of anything like that...just HEARTLESS. And I think was is so discouraging about the entire thing is that all our "rights" we have, no one ,with the ability or the heart, to right this terrible wrong that GTL is doing....IT...IS...A...CRIME!!! What's with the lack of compassion from the people we are suppose to have to protect our rights....THIS IS THE "THEFT" OF A SERVICE (and probably alot more than that)Flag

We should be allowed to talk to the inmates at a reasonable price, or at least it should be easier to set up and account. Their customer service is ridiculous.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 5, 2010Comments: I would like to help in any way possible because these services provided through this company has to be stoped. They are taking advantage of families with already one less provider. Their technology is "old" it places holds on your prepaid funds when the call is made not received or accepted. Their reps are unprofessional and uninformed of who they work for. I agree they need a full investigation ordered. And we should not stop until it has been completed. Even if we have to address the President of the United States.Flag

Also the inmates does gets alone better with the others when they have family support to give them good sound advice instead of hearing only the support of someone that is serving a life sentence. After all it could sound reasonable after hearing it for years. So many of the inmates that have life their families give up on them because it is so expensive. All the above complaints are true. I can never speak to a customer service person. When I did they said nothing. My poor mom of 82 yrs young, they totally mislead her and she spent weeks trying to find out what happened to her check. It is bad.Flag

Name: Alysia Stark on Apr 16, 2010Comments: The rates are horrible. I understand there needs to be some charge but really 3.55? If we prepay shouldn't it be cheaper especially since I pay 6$ to prepay? I have paid 3.50 for numerous phone calls that were only a minute or two because of the phone was messed up. I have paid at least 25$ in phone calls that terminated way before our 20 minutes was up.Flag

Name: Arva Whittaker on Apr 22, 2010Comments: I support 100% all efforts to have Global Tel Link invesigated for its business practices. I pay in excess of $15.00 for a 15 minute call from NC to an Ohio prison. This is extortion; excessive pricing. Furthermore, I have no alternative but to use the services of Global Tel Link if I want to have telephone conversations with my loved one in the Ohio prison; this is a monopoly.Flag

Name: Gailene B. Steward on Apr 30, 2010Comments: I agree with all that has been said twofold. A horrible, horrible system with absolutely no accountability. The phone seems to disconnect just in enough time for the balance to your account to be stated to be sure they charge you for the call that you did not receive from your loved one. Deregulation of the telecommunication industry has allowed private enterprises like this one to run roughshod over the families of inmates (who are not inmates, by the way) but customers. If they cannot be made to be accountable, they should be made to disappear as quickly as they appeared.Flag

They put a block on my phone and i had no way to figure out how to remove it. I called my phone company and they had no idea what was wrong, then almost a month later Global tel link sent me a bill for $125.00 that had to be paid B4 they would remove the block and they refused to take anything but a credit card for payment. I believe what there doing is illeageal and there in bed with the Crooked senator's and greedy BOP. Thats all the BOP is about, Not punishing the criminals but rapeing friends, family out of millions. They spend more money on building prisons in the US then on schools.Flag

My son is an inmate in Denver County, my home phone was blocked and I can no longer recieve calls from him unless I prepay 25.00 or 50.00 with outrageous fees. I think what they are doing is illeagle and should be investigated for fraud. You will have 100% of my support to help in any way.Flag

I'm with AT&T and Globel tel link telling me that i have to put money on a prepaid account in order to talk with him... because i exceed some limit... but i paid it off and they told me for now on i have to use a prepaid account... which takes money... This is not fair because I don't always have money to put on the card... this is a ripoff and that's the only way i can hear from him...I feel if i paid my account why can't he call me collect...Flag
