Paid $25 over the automated phone system when I received incoming call from inmate in AR, when call was to be connected, automated system says there was an error in connecting my call to the inmate in AR, inmate tries to call me back 3 times in 2 hrs, automated system still asking me to pay money, not acknowledging the $25 I just paid. I check my bank acct, the $25 is posted. I set up an online acct with Global Telelink's contractor Offender Connect so that I can review my transaction, $25 is NOT posted, only $1.89. I call them and they tell me that I only have $18 and change that is currently on hold by them and everything should be cleared up in a couple of hours. Call sound like it is from India, very thick accent that I could hardly understand..Flag

Name: Dawn R Potts on Feb 16, 2013Comments: If this isn't extortion I don't know what is...My sister is an inmate in southern West Virginia and I along with her 2 girls, (that I'm raising alone), live in East Liverpool, Ohio. Needless to say, we are totally dependent on the phone calls because of the distance between us. So we have little if any other options but to pay. Here is what I was told, (after 3days attempting to get customer serv.), to add $25.00 dollars to prepaid account: 1. They take $4.75 just to add funds. 2. Next, they take $4.75 connection fee and if the 15min call is dropped even if it's their fault, another connection fee will be applied to call back. ($25.00-$9.50=$15.50).I am able to get 2 calls, so, barring any problems, add another $4.75 connection fee. ($15.50-$4.75=$10.75). They take over HALF of the money!! I'm not educated in the laws but there has to be something, someone can do to stop this company! I know that GTL aren't "Literally" holding a gun to our heads to use their service but they may as well be. If we don't like it or cant pay it, they will extinguish the only real means of personal contact these little girls have with their Mother. Thus, "robbing" us all of the chance for our family to heal, grow, love and be loved. Most important to me, the ability of these girls to know the love of their mommy. Sorry this is so long but I've lay awake many nights crying, ashamed that I can't do more for these little girl's who have been through so much.Flag

I have had to pay aprox. $20. for 15 min. calls PLUS cell phone costs. aprox. $100. a month. I have had GTL drop my calls, requiring my inmate to RECALL with the RE-CONNECT charge. They have put MANY blocks on my line without explaination. I have had UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, NASTY REPS. who hung up on me when I asked to speak to a Supervisor. They operate without ANY ACCOUNTABILITY!!!! They have a MONOPOLY on inmate calls--SO U PLAY BY THEIR RULES OR ELSE!!! I have a daughter who suffers from "Congestive Heart Failure, Asthma & is Hearing Impaired"--so I need to STAY IN TOUCH with her!!! This is so UNFAIR & has placed me in a VERY BAD position. I'm fearful of revealing my identity RIGHT NOW. Please STOP their UNFAIR, UNLAWFUL business practices. There have been mos. when I have had to choose between speaking to my daughter or paying for my medicine!!! PLEASE HELP US!!!!!!!!Flag
