According to Alfred Nobel, creator of the Nobel prizes, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to the man/woman who, “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” In our modern world, it is not enough to simply talk about peace in speeches. It is important to actually go out and promote peace. Matthew “Dancing Matt” Harding is an everyday guy, who became extraordinary when he began a viral sensation by dancing. He started out as a video game designer who has said, he didn’t want to spend his life “writing a game about killing everyone.” Instead, Harding took to traveling the world and dancing in front of landmarks, then posting the videos on YouTube. Since, Dancing Matt has joined with thousands of people all over the world in his “Where the Hell Is Matt?” campaigns and dances promoting a sense of fun, community, and peaceful unity with all people during this digital era. The nomination process for the Nobel Peace Prize is fairly restricted. Only “qualified people” are allowed to send in submissions on who they believe deserve the prize and most of these people are affiliated with the prize, including former recipients and members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The only outsiders are the university professors of history, social science, philosophy, law, and theology who are invited to submit a nomination. I believe it is time that the people choose who promotes peace in the world, and I believe it is time that the Nobel Peace Prize is given to someone accessible, who has a sense of fun, and who promotes a sense of global unity and friendship… through dance. Join me in getting “Dancing Matt” the recognition he deserves! I am in no way affiliated with “Dancing Matt” Harding. I am simply a fan who believes he is truly a promoter of peace.
