Asim Farooqi dedicated his life for educating girls in heart of Pakistan, Lahore for last 34 years. During this time 1000s of girls got quality education what one can dream in this part of world. Then came the last week of October when mistakenly, some unpleasant remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were dictated by a school teacher. This all might had happened just by mistake.

This news was spread outside and reached to religious extremists. Firstly, they wanted to have an explanation from the Principal Asim Farooqi which was provided to them on 30-10-2012, but the other group insisted that Asim Farooqi (Principal) and the said teacher (female) should be tried / prosecuted under the Blasphemy law (295-C) according to Pakistan panel code.

This law is always misused in this country and accused person hardly gets justice from Courts instead has to face public justice. This law has only one punishment “death penalty”.

In this scenario, only Asim Farooqi Principal (77 years old) has been arrested on and is in police custody.

On 31-10-2012 an angry mob tried to burn the school (it has 3 buildings/branches), all the three buildings were vandalized and looted before burning. Then parts of the branches were set to fire.

On 03-11-2012, some 200 students of the School protested in favour of Asim Farooqi and School. At this time still some opponents (a couple of hundreds were also there chanting slogans death penalty for Asim Farooqi). On 03-11-2012 his bail application was rejected by the court because of mounting pressure from Extremists.

By this not only the life of persons is in danger also the education opportunity for 1000s of girls is also at risk.

In this scenario is highly important to put pressure from civil society to get the proper justice for the accused ones in this case.

1. Release of Asim Farooqi (Principal) along with his family
2. Give them media coverage to explain all that has happened. When come up with complete proofs, his explanation should be accepted.
3. If still there is some ambiguity, investigate.
4. If charge for blasphemy is established, punish the criminal not the school.
5. Restore the school building at Government’s expense.
