Comments: I agree. In addition, see if you could add something about using the GI Bill to pay off the veteran's educational cost. The current situation is that if you go to a college and finish your degree the GI BILL will not cover the tuition cost. It only send you a pay check while you're in school. This is bad for veteran who does not want to attend a traditional college after their years of service. Let's said you go to a school like DeVry and get your degree in 3 years which cost about $50,000 and you still have like $10,000 left in your GI BILL account, GI BILL wouldn't allow you to use that money to help pay the tuition cost (loans). It's complicated. If you have any question, feel free to email me.

Comments: I'm still trying to get my Education paid, and the VA will not recognize my ten years service as I went in May 26, 1996 thru 1984, and am not covered under the Montgomery Bill. I was told when the bill changed that I did NOT have to contribute as I went in prior to Jan 1,1977 and served over 180 days before then qualifying me for the Vietnam-Era GI BILL. After serving this country and protecting it from terrorists (that was my job) with top secret clearances I am left in the cold with no education reimbursement.

Comments: I completely agree! As service members we put in time and money for our country and for this MGIB benefit and it has such constraints and restrictions!!

Comments: I served from 1977 to 1981 I received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy. The Veterans Affair did not notify me of the Montgomery Bill and I lost that benefit. How can I get assistance now for my education Also I have spoken with other veterans that claim the Veterans Affair does not do a adequate job when it come to notifying our veterans!!

Comments: The G.I.Bill should be the same as it is for home loans there no time limit on it , you can use it when needed.

Comments: I totally agree with your petition. I am in this situation right now. I would like to use my MGIB to pay for class at a IHL. When I found out that it expires I was shocked. I would think that I would have been either notified of the up and coming expiration date or would have been refunded. I would like to transfer my MGIB to the 9/11 program and continue my eduction for my Masters and PHD but it looks like I will have to go it alone else the government changes their mind.
