We the undersigned, call upon Rachel Carson Middle School administrators and the Fairfax County School Board to revoke the expulsion of Brian Caloyannides. Recently, Brian Caloyannides was expelled for minor unruly behavior and inappropriate physical contact with students. He was required to leave the school and is now going to be attending a Middle School several hours away and will next year be attending a different high school as well, if his appeal is denied. We are starting this petition to get Brian's expulsion revoked and to allow him to finish the school year at Rachel Carson Middle School and attend South Lakes High School in the fall. Brian was well liked by much of the student body at Rachel Carson Middle School. Brian was constantly joking around, and bringing a smile to people’s faces. Many of us feel that Brian's punishment for his behavior was unfair. Although what he did we cannot justify, depriving him of the opportunity to finish middle school and continue to high school with his friends is cruel. The severity of Brian’s consequence is excessively exceeding the consequences someone should receive for what he did. He did not ever physically injure anyone; he never brought any weapons, drugs or drug paraphernalia on school grounds. He was a good student and well-rounded person and did not deserve to be prohibited from attending any school in the county for a full year. This punishment was extremely unjust and this is why now we are asking for your help. We are asking that you sign this petition if you agree with the information stated above. Each signature counts and we are trying to reach 400 signatures. If we can do it, this petition will be taken not only to the school, but to the School Board in an attempt to get Brian back to Rachel Carson. If we can achieve 400 signatures, it will not only be a great accomplishment, but it will help bring back Brian Caloyannides, a treasured student, classmate and friend.
