Without either, I would not have been able to accomplish many of my career goals. The lost of such an important educational resource to both the University and the world is a great tradegy.

Name: Samantha Reif on Jun 6, 2009Comments: As a student, both undergraduate and graduate, in geology, the UW Geological Museum was crucial to my understanding of our natural world. This is a place steeped in history and Brent Breithaupt is an imperative part of the experience. Brent could convey his love of geology and history to people of all ages, and people from all over the world came to see our museum. There are few other things on the UW campus that would capture tourists through Laramie. Even considering closing this museum is a travesty, and will only be a detriment to the entire UW community. Future generations will not get the quality education that we are proud to say we received.

This is supposed to be one the states rich in geology and science. Why shut down a museum that is devoted to that Makes about as much sense as a murdered stillborn baby. Think about this.

It appears that the president and provost have not done their homework as to the true asset of the museum and what it provides to the university.

Name: Mandi Lyon on Jun 7, 2009Comments: The University of Wyoming Geological Museum, its staff, and its collections are invaluable assets not only to local students, faculty, and general community, but also to a wider community of visiting scholars, scientists who deposit specimens at the museum, and even tourists. The summer field course I instruct for the University of Pittsburgh could not operate in the same way without access to the displays and collections at the museum, and especially without the joyfully conveyed expertise of Brent Breithaupt. The University of Wyoming will be losing one of its most visible and enthusiastic assets if it follows through with this plan - Brent was recently featured in the AP news globally for his work on dinosaur footprints (even my grandmother in Rapid City, SD forwarded me a clipping). The University administrators desperately need to consider the broader implications of these cuts, especially what will happen to the geological and paleontological specimens that are reposited at the museum.
