Greetings,

It has come to my attention that a recent articlexecutive director of the center for humanitarian dialogue and head of UN Civil afairs n Bosnia-Hercegovina in 1993-1995, posted an article in the new york times. This article, was critical of the ICTY, and claimed in many ways that the ICTY was "persecuting" Serbs with regard to the genocide that took place in Bosnia in 1992 and 1995. It is acceptable to point out facts, but in his column, Mr. Harland uses the dialogue of many nationalist, genocide deniers, and revisionist to make a radical claim about the Tribunal (agreed to be created by the UN Security Counsel in 1993, due to the "ethnic cleansing" and genocidal acts by Serbian Authorities in Croatia in 1991, Bosnia 1992-1995, and Kosovo in 1999. In his article Mr. Harland, claims more Serbs were 'ethnically cleansed" than any other ethnic group. He does not explain furthur his definition of ethnic cleansing, he does not cite a source...and in fact it has been found by most countries and the ICTY that the actions of the Croatia and Kosovo did not amount to a "Joint Criminal Enterprise" to ethnically cleanse. He states " ‘Almost no one has been held to account [for these crimes against Serbs], and it appears that no one will be… Convicting only Serbs simply doesn’t make sense in terms of justice, in terms of reality, or in terms of politics.’...this is not only incorrect in facts, but in intent. The ICTY was created o determine, personal guilt and responsibility, it has been confirmed through many governments that the Serbs (with help from the Yugoslav Government) committed the majority of atrocities in Bosnia and Yugoslavia. This is not to attack Serbia, but to state a fact, by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and judicial branches of many nations and the UN. In fact MANY non-serbs were indicted for war crimes. He states ‘Convicting only Serbs simply doesn’t make sense in terms of justice, in terms of reality, or in terms of politics. The Croatian leaders connived in the carve-up of Yugoslavia, and contributed mightily to the horrors on Bosnia and Herzegovina. I witnessed for myself the indiscriminate fury of the Croatian assault on the beautiful city of Mostar.’ - In fact what he does not mention in his article either by coincidence or ommission is Milivoj Petkovic, Jadranko Prlic, Slobodan Praljak, Bruno Stojic, Valentic Coric and Berislav Pusic are all Croat officials on trial specifically FOR the assault on Mostar.  Once again he states ‘The Bosnian Muslim leadership had deeply compromising links to the international jihahist movement, and hosted at least three people who went on to play key roles in the 9/11 attacks on the United States. I witnessed attacks by foreign mujahedeen elements against Croat civilians in the Lasva Valley.’ He fails to mention the conclusion by the ICTY that the Bosnian Army had "no effective control" over extremist elements. The court has in fact stated the Bosnian Army had to fight the Mujahadeen to exert any control over them. Again, using the words of many Bosnian Genocide revisionist and supporters of Slobodan Milosevic. However unlike accurate journalist he uses little in statisitics, and fact to provide any evidence of a "conspiracy". The creation of the tribunal was not for "political, peace" purposes. It was to find guilty those who have DELIBERATELY engaged in murder, deportation, extermination, genocide or other war crimes, and does not try to "even out" the criminals for political purposes. He makes another disturbing statement ‘And the Kosovar Albanian authorities deserve a special mention, having taken ethnic cleansing to its most extreme form — ridding themselves almost entirely of the Serb and Roma populations. Kosovo’s ancient Christian Orthodox monasteries are now almost the only reminder of a once-flourishing non-Albanian population… Haradinaj has been cleared of the charges brought against him, but the fact remains that hundreds of thousands of Serbs — mostly the elderly, women and children — were ethnically cleansed from Kosovo by the Kosovar Albanians.’ yet he never mentions that over half of the Serb population still reside in Kosovo and have NOT been forced out.  You can read more about mr. harlands ommission of facts and attempts to pursuade a population without using facts, statistics, and in fact previously stating "the muslims had shelled themselves" during the Markale Masssacre in 1995. Please sign this petition, asking the New york times, to condemn Mr. Harlands irresponsible journalism, or make him address it in public, there are only 3 million Bosniak people which makes them a weak target for revisionist and genocide deniers to the over 22 million residents of Serbia. The darkest days in European history, and victims should not have to defend themselves twice, from slander http://greatersurbiton.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/david-harlands-attack-on-the-icty/and innaccurate or missleading journalism.
