sandy rose | The closure of this centre will be a victory for bigotry and prejudice in Manchester.

Kevin Henry | Whilst Manchester is a hub for Lesbian Gay and Transgender people, there are many organisations which need a place from which to operate, there are many sections of our community who find it difficult to accept homosexuality, and children growing up in those communities need somewhere safe that they can go to which can provide a degree of support from other gay people. The loss of the Gay Centre would be a huge blow to Manchester, and in these days of the city's international appeal as a gay destination, it would be wholly inappropriate for the city to respond by removing support for a centre which is the focal point for many social and educational groups. Let's not rely on Canal Street for venues, particularly when the majority are no longer owned locally. We NEED a local centre as a hub.

Felix Simister | I am a community group user at these premises and am, in fact a founding member of MORF, the Female-to-male transgender support group, which meets at the gay Centre each month. It is totally inappropriate to expect the smaller groups such as ours and the burgeoning Trans Youth group to assimilate with maunstream provision. There is enough confusuon about transpeople in established GLB groups already without depriving us of this valued resource.
Anne-Marie | I am a 16 year old girl finally getting a hold on my sexuality and identity. However, I am not all the way there, and the social pressure that I and many others like me face is intense, magnified by the fact I am of a young age, where conforming and peer pressure is a constant issue. Any place that can offer support and advice when facing these issues really does make a big difference in a world that can seem isolating and harsh. It is of great dissappointment that my own council can't recognise this and help the individuals that it is your duty to protect and care for. I have much pride for my city, but it seems as I grow up the people being put in positions of great power and influence have their integrity compromised, for the sake of buying into a commercial machine. Closing the Gay Centre in Manchester does not simply mean closing a building, it means worsening the problems of people and preventing those seeking advice and support from getting it. It is not a service that can be easily moved, it's position is ideal, allowing access for all LGBT in Manchester. In order to preserve the diversity of Manchester it is fundamental the Gay Centre stays open, otherwise I fear everything I loved about this city is doomed to be lost. Manchester is what it is because people are allowed to be people, expressing themselves as fully as they want, please, don't change that.

Geraldine Mckavanagh | Saving this centre will be benificial for you, because if the Lesbians and Gays don't feel at home in Manchester they will move away from Manchester. LGYM can help them feel more at home, so if LGYM doesn't shut you will encourage more people to stay in Manchester and effectively, you may even interest other gays and lesbians in other towns where there are no youth centres to come to Manchester. I whole-heartedly believe that the fact Manchester is a more tolerant town than many other English cities/towns is what makes Manchester the brilliant town/city it is. So please keep the legacy of tolerance alive and keep this centre open.
