We are concerned about any expansion of the system given the substantial existing odor problems from the sewer system, particularly along Lake Shore Drive and Mayhew Inn Road. These well documented odors have been unable to be resolved by the County over the last 5 years. These odors have significantly impacted real estate values for some property owners. To expand further the sewer system without being able to resolve such a systemic issue may be negligent. We are concerned that the Commissioners will not allow a “hook-up” deferral schedule similar to that already provided to Marsh Hill residents. Not allowing homeowners the choice of a full deferral for those with healthy septic systems and wells would be unfair and discriminatory, particularly given the precedent established a year ago. We are concerned that the County is effectively requiring about 100 homeowners along Stockslager Road and Sandy Beach to bear the cost to pay for capacity for up to 2000 future homeowners of the WISP/Mountainside Resort Development. The County has had numerous opportunities to require developers to bear those costs, but has refused to do so. We strongly request that the Commissioners reassess their approach to the Western Conveyance before commencing construction.
